I am an environmental scientist curious about the ways that our biological and physical worlds influence each other. I currently study the microbes that live at hydrothermal vents at the bottom of the ocean. What are they doing, and are their activities relevant to global biogeochemical cycles?

In a former life I was a science teacher. As such, I am passionate about science communication and education. In my spare time I take lots of photographs - mostly of the natural world. I also love cooking. I get especially excited about home-fermented eats and drinks. I enjoy being outside whenever possible, preferable on or near mountains or the ocean.
